THE BEST STOCKED KITCHEN — MAKING CREATION EASY Part 2
As everyone now knows, I am Italian…
Being Italian, coming from parents that lived through World War 2, in New York City as well as them coming from parents that immigrated here during the Great Depression, they were taught to be and therefore were always prepared for anything… Need I say more?
ANYTHING — that is an understatement.
Let me tell you that growing up with my Dear Mother and Wonderful Father – we were prepared for the next Famine, Depression, the next World War — and worst of all, the biggest nightmare —- living through a bomb that wiped everyone off the face of the earth except for us. So, all of us being left alone after one of those earth-shattering events – we could not only survive with enough food for the family, the entire family – but also for the whole neighborhood and possibly all of Long Island. Yes, that’s right —- survive for, at best, a full year and probably longer.
Here we are with all of this food ——
Now, my mother and father never really went to that next step on how we were going to keep the food fresh, even though the canned and dry food were ample, they never figured that we wouldn’t be able to use our gas stove or keep this refrigerated. Of course – for us, there was always the charcoal outdoor grill, a campfire, and the trusty – old fireplace — (if the house was still standing). Needless to say, in their minds, they were ready. Therefore, we had to have every kitchen utensil and modern appliance basics that were necessary.
OK – here we are in the 21st century — hopefully with not too many of those “mom and dad’s” fears —- so — —- let’s make it easy….. I will give you the very basics with minimal amounts of frills. Keep in mind that I get it, many of you have to start out slowly due to finances. I promise to go easy, simply work towards stocking the basic list and you can always add to your “dream, wish list” after.
Remember where I started — that glorified dollar store – Spaggs.
Just close your eyes, think of how much easier your cooking, the creative experience will be with the correct tools at your fingertips. As you have your eyes shut, imagine, the aromas in your kitchen, the beautiful presentation of your every creation and most of all – that perfect mouthwatering – taste of your work of art.
You all know the absolute necessary large kitchen appliances – stove, oven , refrigerator, dishwasher… No real need to break those items down — I see that you already know.
So – let’s start with every basic you can think of — here is your list.
